Book Launch 2025

Published on 30 April 2025 at 19:53

On April 26, 2025, I had the incredible honor of launching my book at the Elders for Change office—an event that will forever hold a special place in my heart. From the moment guests began arriving at 10:00 AM, the warmth and support from the community was palpable. We started with a moment of silence to honor a notable elder for change and acknowledged my adopted mother, Annette Toby who was sadly unable to attend. As people mingled and enjoyed face painting and refreshments, I felt the true spirit of connection that defines our community.

Rachel Montgomery, a proud representative of Elders for Change and our MC for the day, welcomed everyone warmly and guided us through the schedule ahead, which included inspiring speeches, readings, and the book signing.

Hearing Aunty Donnah Bobbitt share her pride in my achievements and tell the story of Elders for Change was deeply moving. I was also touched by Aunty Coralie Cassidy’s shy but heartfelt words about how she met me, and by Aunty Lynette’s powerful remarks about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health first aid program, as well as the recent media work I’ve been involved in.

When it was my turn to read, sharing the acknowledgment to country, dedications, and a poem from my book, I felt a profound connection with everyone present. The cake cutting ceremony that followed—joined by Rachel, the guest speakers, and myself—was a joyful celebration filled with laughter, photo opportunities, and a heartfelt toast.

Perhaps one of the most rewarding parts of the day was the book signing. Meeting each guest, hearing their stories, and signing their copies and posters made the launch deeply personal and memorable. As Rachel gave the closing remarks, thanking all who participated and encouraging guests to stay for photos and refreshments, I felt immense gratitude for this supportive community.

Beyond the celebration, I was proud that our launch raised $300 for Elders for Change, reinforcing the powerful impact we can make when we come together. This event was not just about a book—it was about honoring our culture, sharing stories, and building lasting connections. I am truly humbled and inspired by the strength and unity of our community, and I look forward to continuing this journey with all of you.
